Best PS4 Racing Games of All Time

1. F1 2020

Taking our top spot is none other than the most celebrated Formula1 racing game out there. Codemaster’s dedication to their craft in the racing genre has culminated into this impressive celebration of all things great about Formula1 racing. Sure, F1 2021 just came out a few weeks ago, but it only gained a play score of 8.49,  while the others didn’t quite make it to the cut. F1 2020 was a league of its own with detailed visuals and realistic driving mechanics. It’s the best racing title for old-gen players and it receives a play score of 8.79.

2. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled

Of all the racing titles on this list, this PlayStation 1 Remake has a soft spot in our hearts. Obviously inspired by Nintendo's Mario Kart series, Crash Team racing definitely carved its own name in the genre, making it a household name to every 90's kid out there. As a remake, the game improved its visuals. Making it perfect to play on modern consoles. Everything is still in place here, alongside a few minor balancing tweaks and a slew of bonus content. It has a PlayScore of 8.62.

3. DiRT 4

The second Codemasters title on this list and it’s certainly not the last. Dirt 4 is their perfected  Rally racing game after Dirt Rally’s success. As a result, it is considered by many as this generation's quintessential rally racer. Just like Codemasters' other games though, it earned just decent scores from users despite being critically acclaimed. It’s only ahead by a few points from their follow-up entry, DiRT 5. DiRT 4 has a PlayScore of 8.49.

4. Wreckfest

THQ Nordic's chaotic racing game isn't the first of its kind by any standard. Anyone familiar with Twisted Metal or even the FlatOut series has definitely played or heard of this game before. Powered by sophisticated driving dynamics and realistic physics, it’s the ultimate vehicular carnage experience. There aren't any fancy cars or licenses here because you won't need them in an arena with absolutely zero rules. The only thing to do is to make it to the finish line, no matter what it takes. It has a play score of 8.49.

5. DiRT Rally

The first of Codemaster's critically acclaimed rally racing series. When it came out, it was hailed as one of the best Rally racers on the market, and not even its sequel could compete with its impressive repertoire of features. It is unforgiving for Rally racing amateurs. It takes some time to, get used to it as the game punishes you hard for going off the beaten path. This won’t be the final Codemasters title on the list though. Dirt Rally has a play score of 8.46.

6. Burnout Paradise Remastered

Speaking of classics, Burnout Paradise gets a much-needed remaster. Released for the  Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2008, it was a racing game that was truly ahead of its time. It gave players a massive open world to discover at their own high-octane pace. Drive around city streets discovering shortcuts for your next race, or chill around with friends in their online lobbies.  As a remaster, this includes all the DLCs the game offered during its release. With all the benefits of today's technology, Burnout Paradise Remastered is the best tribute to one of the greatest open-world racers out there. A play score of 8.45.

7. Driveclub Bikes

A PlayStation 4 classic. This latest of the Driveclub series expands their racing repertoire. Put aside your fancy four-wheelers and expose yourselves to the breakneck speeds of these two-wheeled machines. Bikes became a polished version with improved handling mechanics and smoother frames. There is a multitude of different bikes to collect and customize, each more powerful than the next. For a game that came out 6 years ago, it still looks gorgeous with its realistic visuals. A play score of 8.29.

8. WRC 9 FIA World Rally Championship

This latest version of the WRC is cashing in on the exhilarating breeze of rally titles.  This racing game offers plenty of surprises, with hundreds of licenses, a handful of beautiful locales, and a whole lot of white-knuckling fun. Manage the grueling art of rally racing and make your way through 14 unique locations (and more). A next-gen experience is available to play on the PlayStation 5, assuming you are one of the lucky few who bought the console. A play score of 8.28.

9. Lonely Mountains: Downhill

Now with VR out of the way, this physics-based indie title from developer  Megagon isn’t trying to compete with the Triple-A racing bigwigs. Instead, it captures its own sense of style with a more casual and relaxed tone. Find your way down this treacherous terrain and use the power of physics to guide your descent. It can be somewhat challenging when you’re not used to its design. Challenge yourself with a  variety of difficulty levels and give yourself a pat on the back for overcoming them. You can try out the demo right now if you’re interested!  It receives a play score of 8.24.

10. Sprint Vector

We open this list with an unlikely take on the racing genre. Putting your PlayStation VR to the test, Sprint Vector takes you and other players in a neon-soaked world where you aim to race to the top. While it is based on actual running, the game takes inspiration from various Kart racers like Mario Kart, giving players the weapons and tools to sabotage their opponents. Combine its parkour-based gameplay with the goofy gimmicks of  VR technology. Unfortunately, with the current state of VR, there’s not a lot of players to play with. The numbers have sadly dwindled over time. But hey, on the bright side there’s bound to be at least one player who’s up and ready for some roller-blading racing. A play score of 8.23.
